The debt collection industry stinks says DebtWizard

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has stepped in twice over the past few weeks to sort out the debt collection industry. First they moved on Link Financial Limited and then followed with action against another ten firms. Six were debt management companies and the other four 'cold calling' companies, click here for this news item.

The debt collection industry is preying on the desperation of consumers and a lack of awareness of their options. Some of these individuals are vulnerable as they lack the knowledge and confidence to challenge debt recovery tactics and actions.

Taxman finds debts too taxing

Although many organisations, including other government departments, use debt collection agencies successfully to help them with debt recovery, this is a first for HMRC.

FSA sets date to regulate 'flash selling'

Many thousands of families have been forced by circumstances to sell their homes using mortgage rescue, sale and rent-back (SRB) or sell-to-let schemes to clear their mortgage debts and enable them to stay in their home. This is also known as 'flash sales'. Most of the companies buy these homes at well under their market value and there are some big risks for the seller.

Up to now these schemes have fallen outside the control of the Financial Services Agency (FSA) but following investigations into concerns about unscrupulous sale and rent back operators, the regulator hopes to introduce a new regime from 1 July to tackle the immediate problems in the SRB market.

You can read more on the risks together with the DebtWizard comment here.
