Harassment - know how to fight back

It's not a crime to be in debt so what can you do if you are constantly harassed by lenders and no one is listening to you?

Surprisingly you can do quite a lot. First you need to understand the definition of harassment, then know how to nip minor harassment in the bud and then know at what stageto involve the Police.

Did you know that many have successfully sued the lender for damages following harassment and received other payouts as well?

We list some examples for you plus lots more great information on how to fight your corner and get treated with respect. More here at the debtwizard guide to dealing with harassment.

Bank of China props up the UK mortgage market

The Bank of China, currently the third biggest bank in the world, has entered the mortgage market in Britain with tracker deals for first time buyers, home movers and customers who want to re-mortgage.

With UK mortgage approvals running at a 14 month high, the Bank of China is looking to cash in on UK borrowers.

You can find more on the rates and terms by clicking here.

A good time to catch 'Loan sharks'

With millions of consumers in the UK finding it difficult to meet monthly bills it is inevitable some will fall foul of the 'Loan Shark'.

We explain how to check up on a loan shark, where to get free help if you have already fallen for one and answer the question, 'do I legally have to repay a loan shark?

All can be found at the debtwizard guide to loan sharks.

Debt solution comparison table

In a simple to read chart we illustrate a summary of possible debt solutions.

We compare Bankruptcy, Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs), Debt Management Plans and Debt consolidation loans.

At a glance you can quickly understand which offer debt relief, freezes interest and much more at the debtwizard comparison table.

Date to watch - Insolvency figures

The Insolvency Service will reveal the numbers going bankrupt or proposing an Individual Voluntary Arrangement, often known as an IVA this Friday 7th August.

Mike will do a news article on this to illustrate why these numbers are an important indicator on how the economy is doing.

You can see all the previous numbers in our simple to read chart here.

0% credit card balance transfers - warning

In this article we actually challenge the advice many well known so called 'debt experts' claim is a way of dealing with your debt.

We highlight what could happen if the balance transfer does not solve your debt problems and that you may then have put yourself in a very poor position with creditors.

We also detail the dangers of not making that first payment after the transfer and what to look out for on the deal.

Fascinating stuff that you really need to know, read more on the debtwizard guide to 0% credit card balance transfers.

Bank charges update

The Financial Services Authority, FSA, has extended the waiver for another six months which means banks and building societies can put customer complaints 'on hold' until the test case is resolved.

There is a way round this - Financial Hardship. We detail what the criteria are for financial hardship rules and list examples and guidance on how to approach the bank if you are suffering financial difficulty.

Debtwizard guide to financial hardship rules.

Interest rate stays at 0.5% but quantitative easing to increase

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee today voted to keep interest rates at 0.5%.

The Committee also voted to increase its programme of quantitative easing by another £50 billion, totaling £175 billion from central bank reserves.

Quantitative easing explained here.
