April 6th - Bankruptcy fee jumps to £510 & Debt Relief Orders (DROs) become law

The fee payable by an individual to go bankrupt has gone up by £15 to that of £510, a 3% increase.

Mike has written to the PM asking for decisive action in helping those consumers that cannot afford this fee, you can find his letter and the responses from all the political parties at the bottom of this email under the section 'Debtwizard asks the PM for help'.

Every little helps - Tesco to open new banks



Tesco plans to expand its financial operations by opening bank branches in 30 of its stores by the end of 2009.

It has already trialed a branch in Glasgow and new branches will open next month in ......

Moneywise interviews Mike Thomas

Banks' win right to appeal on bank charges

1st April 2009. The House of Lords have granted permission to the UK banks to appeal against the recent Appeal court judgement on bank charges.

The Sun newspaper is to launch new online radio station called SunTalk

SunTalk is pitched to be a more multi-platform and interactive rather than just a normal radio station. David Cameron is the first guest on launch date 20 April. Mike will feature on 1st May 2009 at 12 noon.

CPI and RPI explained



CPI - Consumer Price Index - 3.2% Feb 2009
Used by Government for the UK inflation target and does not include council tax or mortgage interest costs.

RPI - Retail Price Index - 0% Feb 2009
Used to negotiate wage increases, pensions, state benefits and index linked guilts.

Either one of these inflation measures can have a major influence on the economy as they will affect interest rate decisions, pensions and wage settlements.
Debtwizard asks the PM for help



Latest - Debtwizard is asking the PM to take decisive action in helping consumers that cannot afford the bankruptcy fee of £495, which is due to increase to £510 from 6th April.
