On the 1st April 2009 the House of Lords granted permission to the UK banks to appeal against the recent Appeal court judgement on bank charges. In March the Appeal Court ruled that the Office of Fair Trading, OFT, could investigate whether bank charges were fair.
The OFT has already made it clear that as a result of its own investigations it does consider that overdraft fees are unfair. As previously with credit card charges the OFT may well argue that the bank charges should also be reduced considerably from their current levels, which on many occasions can amount to more than £30 just for not having sufficient funds to cover a cheque or direct debt payment.
Most of the banks that have appealed against the OFT's right to assess charges for fairness have been saved by you and I the tax payer! They are RBS/NatWest, Lloyds TSB (Now Lloyds Banking Group) and HBOS. They would not be around if it were not for our support.
If you have incurred bank charges over the past 6 years then you may as well register a claim and join the queue in the event the bank has to pay them back.
You will need to get your statements for the past 6 years and we will show how to do this with a template letter on any one of the links below.
Just click on the one you need to see further template letters, Q & A's and our much acclaimed interest calculator to help you claim bank and credit card charges.
