From the 6th April 2009 the government has increased the cost for an individual to petition for their bankruptcy.
If creditors were more supportive and stopped harassing the consumer with relentless telephone calls and letters demanding payment and instead listened to the borrower then it is arguable the figures of those petitioning would be less.
Those that have chosen to resolve their debts through bankruptcy need to remember it is not a crime to be in debt, there is legislation to deal with unsecured creditors and many individuals I know have moved on from bankruptcy to rebuild their lives and pay their way once more through taxes and national insurances.
Debt can consume your life. These people need support from their families and friends. It is a clear fact that once you get back control of your debts you get back control of your life.
To increase the petitioning costs to £510 at a time when unemployment and insolvency figures are soon to reach record levels suggest that the government is only interested in helping the banks and not Joe Public, the consumer.
